Most people pick a rain shower on how it looks, then find out afterwards what it needs. The head is the easy part. What decides whether you enjoy it every morning is what feeds it and where it mounts, and both of those get settled long before anyone chooses a finish.
Here is the order it runs in.
Rain, handheld, or both
There are three ways this goes, and for most Singapore bathrooms one of them is the obvious answer.
A fixed rain head on its own gives you the wide overhead spread, which is the whole reason people want one. It also means everything you rinse has to come to the water.
A handheld on its own is the practical one. You can aim it, rinse the walls and the floor down after, wash a child or a dog, and it asks nothing of your ceiling.
A combination set gives you both on one valve, with a diverter to switch between them. Most of the sets we carry are built this way: the valve, a fixed rain head, and a hand shower on a diverter. If you are replacing an existing shower and you cannot yet say which you will reach for more often, this is the option that does not make you decide.
One thing worth knowing before you start looking. Rain showers are generally sold as complete sets with the valve included rather than as a head on its own, so what you are choosing is the whole set.
Ceiling or wall is a timing decision
Where the head sits looks like a style question. It is really a question about when you can buy it.
A wall-mounted rain shower comes off an arm fixed to the wall and runs from the inlets your current shower already uses. That is the usual swap in a bathroom that is finished and tiled.
A ceiling-mounted rain shower drops straight down from overhead. It is the closest thing to actual rainfall, and it is the version in every photo people bring us. The water has to get up there, so the pipe run has to be planned and concealed before the ceiling closes and the tiler starts.
The short version: if the bathroom is already done, you are looking at a wall-mounted set. If you are mid-renovation and the tiling has not started, the ceiling option is open to you. Decide it now rather than after the tiles are on.
What is actually feeding the head
This is the part that catches people out, and it is usually not your flat’s water pressure.
A rain head spreads water across a much wider area than a conventional head. The same water, over a bigger circle, lands softer. That is the design working as intended. It only becomes a disappointment when the supply reaching it was already limited.
The usual limit is the water heater rather than the pipe in the wall. An instant heater warms water as it passes through, which caps how much can pass at once. Put a wide rain head on the end of that and the shower can feel gentler than the one it replaced. A storage heater, or a cold feed, does not hold you back the same way.
So find out which heater you have before you fall for a head, and take a photo of it on your phone. Our team will work through head size with you from there. Finish, and the rest of the room

Settle it once and apply it everywhere. Matching a colour after the fact, once half the room is already bought, is the part nobody enjoys.

Is a rain shower actually worth it over an ordinary shower head?
If you want the wide overhead spread and a calmer shower, yes. What you trade is directness: a rain head is fixed and gentle by design, so a plain head can feel more forceful and is easier to aim. That is why a combination set is worth looking at, because you get the rain head and a hand shower on the same valve.
Rain shower or handheld: do I have to choose?
No. A combination set runs both from one valve with a diverter, so you switch between the overhead rain head and the hand shower as you need. It suits a family bathroom, where one person wants to stand under the rain and someone else needs to rinse the floor.
What does a ceiling-mounted rain shower need that a wall-mounted one does not?
Pipework running above the head, hidden in the ceiling. That has to be planned and installed before the ceiling is closed and the tiling goes in, so it suits a bathroom being renovated. A wall-mounted set runs off the inlets already in your wall, which is why it is the workable choice in a finished bathroom.
What should I check in my bathroom before choosing a rain shower?
Which water heater you have, because that governs how much water reaches the head. Whether the ceiling is still open, because that decides if a ceiling-mounted head is possible. And how the shower gets used day to day, because that is what settles rain, handheld or both. A photo of the heater and of the existing shower is usually enough to bring in.
